Chartres Organizer Hopes for Bishops' Goodwill Following FSSPX Consecrations

Following the FSSPX episcopal consecrations, Philippe Darantière hopes "for great goodwill toward us on the part of the bishops," he told OsvNews.com on July 7.
Since 2025, he has been president of the Notre-Dame de Chrétienté association, which organizes the annual Paris-to-Chartres pilgrimage, France.
For Darantière, contact between the faithful attached to the traditional Roman rite and the bishops of France is "still tentative." It varies depending on the diocese and the specific circumstances there.
"We do not communicate much with the bishops," he admitted. He also expressed his hope for "improvements in relations with the bishops, particularly in the summer, when there are many requests for weddings and baptisms in the traditional rite from the faithful who are attached to the traditional rite but who are far from their usual parish."
Darantière is supporting Pope Leo XIV's visit to France in September. The association Notre-Dame de Chrétienté is providing volunteers and encouraging …ఇంకా

U.S. Ambassador Hosted Pope Leo XIV for July 4 Dinner

U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See Brian Burch has described an informal Independence Day dinner he hosted for Pope Leo XIV at his residence in Rome.
Speaking with Italian media, Burch said the pope arrived at 7:30 p.m. on July 4, prayed with the ambassador's family, and shared a meal featuring American charcuterie, watermelon salad, Chicago-style hot dogs, apple pie, and gelato. Burch said Leo XIV approved of the menu.
The pope arrived without aides or secretaries, accompanied only by two Vatican gendarmes.
Burch said he invited Leo XIV to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States by hosting the first U.S.-born pope. The invitation was sent about two months before the dinner, and confirmation came about a month later.
The ambassador also said Leo XIV still carries a Peruvian credit card, uses a cellphone, follows the Chicago White Sox, and sometimes wakes during the night to check soccer scores.
The dinner took place the same day Leo XIV visited Lampedusa. Burch said the pope rejected …ఇంకా

Tibetan Rituals in a U.S. Church. Worse than Germany: On Monday, more than 60 Tibetans gathered at Most Holy Redeemer Church in Hadley, Massachusetts, to celebrate the Dalai Lama's 91st birthday and mark the conclusion of the "Year of Compassion," an initiative of the Central Tibetan Administration. The event opened with a ritual in which participants chanted "Om" three times and tossed tsampa (barley flour) into the air. Attendees also made mandala offerings by bowing and placing a white ceremonial scarf before a photo of the Dalai Lama. The celebration continued with speeches, traditional Tibetan songs and dances, and performances by students from a local Tibetan Sunday school.

Celebrating compassion, preserving culture

HADLEY — Arranged in a semicircle at the Most Holy Redeemer Church parking lot on Monday, Tibetans took a deep breath of juniper-scented air, raised the flour pinched between their fingers and let out their breath in a long, harmonious “om.” As soon as the third sacred chant ended, they tossed the barley flour, known as tsampa, into the air to create small clouds of joy. The ritual marked the beginning of western Massachusetts’ observance of the 14th Dalai Lama’s 91st birthday. More than 60 Tibetans gathered at the Regional Tibetan Association of Massachusetts event to enjoy Tibetan song and dance, connect over a meal and conclude the Year of Compassion — a call to action by Central Tibetan Administration encouraging acts of generosity and care around the world. Dhardon Sharling, a member of the Year of Compassion Committee, speaks at a Tibetan community celebration for the Dalai Lama’s 91st birthday at Most Holy Redeemer Church in Hadley on Monday. FSSPX Confessions Valid - Cardinal Müller Doubles Down

On July 6, Cardinal Gerhard Müller told K-TV.org that FSSPX confessions are illicit but valid. Now he has repeated his disagreement with the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. Its explanatory note from July 2 had claimed that confessions heard by FSSPX priests are "invalid."
"The note from the Dicastery, which appears only as explanatory notes, is unclear," Cardinal Müller told Andreas Wailzer on X.com on July 8.
He added: "The authority to forgive sins is conferred by Christ Himself in the sacrament of Holy Orders. It is not conferred by the Pope through his primacy of jurisdiction. Orthodox priests, too, validly grant absolution."
Müller continued: "The Pope can only prohibit the exercise of this authority. He can also reserve certain sins for his own absolution. One example is the sin against the unity of the Church, committed through an unauthorized episcopal consecration."

US Archbishop Calls Attending FSSPX Masses "Sinful"

Catholics may not knowingly take part in the liturgical celebrations, apostolates, or other activities of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X, Archbishop Shawn McKnight of Kansas City, Kansas, wrote in a July 2 statement following the episcopal consecrations.
McKnight noted that the SSPX's ministry "is not legitimate in the life of the Church" and that "the sacraments of Penance and Matrimony administered by them are now invalid."
Participation in the worship of the "schismatic" community fosters separation from the Church's communion, he added: "Such participation is not merely discouraged but is gravely contrary to the unity of the Church and, when undertaken with full knowledge and deliberate consent, is sinful."

Turin Parish Holds Funeral for Muslim. Worse than Germany: On 3 July, the body of an Iranian Muslim was brought to Sant'Anna parish in Turin for a ceremony led by the parish priest, Don Valter Danna. The service included Christian prayers and the use of incense. Don Danna said it was not a Catholic funeral but rather a "prayer of farewell," explaining that the family had close ties to the parish. He confirmed that the ceremony was intentionally distinguished from a Catholic funeral.

Cardinal Müller: "The Old Rite Is Not Forbidden"

On July 6, Cardinal Müller spoke with K-TV about the Traditional Latin Mass and the FSSPX episcopal consecrations. Key statements:
- "The implementation of the liturgical reform was marked by many abuses because many failed to grasp the spirit of the renewed liturgy and neglected its essential elements: the worship of God, the communication of salvation, and reverence before God."
- "The so-called old rite is not forbidden. Rather, it is permitted to a certain extent and under certain conditions, and it is, of course, valid."
- "Pope Benedict XVI made the wise decision that the same Latin liturgy could be celebrated in both its ordinary and extraordinary forms."
- "The faithful always have the opportunity to attend the Holy Mass celebrated according to the older form."
- "Many people may have sympathies for the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X because they believe that the Catholic faith and the liturgy are being preserved there against many of the abuses found in modernist circles.…ఇంకా

Self-Management and Gossip

– Folha de S. Paulo, December 11, 1981 –
by Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira
The TFPs in 13 countries of the New and Old Worlds have just published a Message to their respective nations on the topic of French self managing socialism.
Appearing on the 9th of this month in the Washington Post and in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the document was also scheduled for publication by the great newspapers of our country and others.
I am writing on the 10th. As of this moment, those two initial publications have provoked a host of requests for television, radio and newspaper interviews in the most diverse countries. This makes one see the great degree of interest that the topic stirs up.
I still do know any commentaries on the content of the Message in the foreign press. All I have are those of some Brazilian newspapers.
The Brazilian TFP will publish the whole text of the Message, of which I am the author, as a paid advertisement in the Folha de São Paulo on the 17th of this month. Until then …ఇంకా

Women Accuse Rabat Archbishop of Sexual Violence, Vatican Opens Inquiry

Marrakech – At least five women have accused Cristobal Lopez Romero, the Archbishop of Rabat, of sexual violence, prompting the Vatican to open a formal investigation into one of the Catholic Church’s most prominent cardinals. The 74-year-old Spanish clergyman announced on Tuesday that he would step back from all public duties while the inquiry proceeds. But he denied the allegations. The accusations came to light through an investigation by Agence France-Presse. AFP interviewed a retired woman active within the church who reported repeated sexual assaults but did not authorize the agency to disclose the details of her testimony at this stage. AFP also reviewed the written testimony of another woman, addressed to the apostolic nunciature – the Vatican’s embassy in the Moroccan capital. She accused the cardinal of “physical gestures” she “perceived as inappropriate,” including “particularly forceful and prolonged embraces” and an attempted physical advance she described as an effort to …
