Deacon Recites Parts of the Eucharistic Prayer: On June 27, during a funeral in Mühlwald, Diocese of Bolzano-Brixen (Bozen-Brixen), Italy, a deacon recited parts of the Eucharistic Prayer. According to the Missal, the Eucharistic Prayer is reserved to the priest alone. The diocesan bishop is Bishop Ivo Muser.

Catholics may not knowingly take part in the liturgical celebrations, apostolates, or other activities of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X, Archbishop Shawn McKnight of Kansas City, Kansas, wrote in a July 2 statement following the episcopal consecrations. McKnight noted that the SSPX's ministry "is not legitimate in the life of the Church" and that "the sacraments of Penance and Matrimony administered by them are now invalid." Worse than Germany: Archbishop Erio Castellucci of Modena-Nonantola has proposed a form of liturgical "co-presidency" in which women would lead the Liturgy of the Word while priests would preside over the Eucharistic consecration. The proposal appears in a speech published on May 24 in the diocesan bulletin, delivered at a conference organized by the Centro Italiano Femminile in Carpi. Monsignor Castellucci is the vice President of the Italian bishops and President of the National Committee for the Italian Synod. He suggested that women could take responsibility for the first part of the Eucharist, proclaiming the Resurrection "as Mary Magdalene did to the apostles." This would sidestep "the impasse" over women's ordination while still respecting Church teaching that only a priest can consecrate. U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See Brian Burch has described an informal Independence Day dinner he hosted for Pope Leo XIV at his residence in Rome. Speaking with Italian media, Burch said the pope arrived at 7:30 p.m. on July 4, prayed with the ambassador's family, and shared a meal featuring American charcuterie, watermelon salad, Chicago-style hot dogs, apple pie, and gelato. Burch said Leo XIV approved of the menu. The pope arrived without aides or secretaries, accompanied only by two Vatican gendarmes. Burch said he invited Leo XIV to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States by hosting the first U.S.-born pope. The invitation was sent about two months before the dinner, and confirmation came about a month later. The episcopal consecrations by the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X in Écône on July 1 have revived an old question: how many Catholics are attached to the FSSPX? The answer is surprisingly elusive. Depending on the source, estimates range from around 100,000 to as many as 600,000 faithful worldwide. The FSSPX itself continues to publish the figure of 600,000 faithful. However, the number of 600,000 comes from a speech delivered in 2007 by Cardinal Darío Castrillón Hoyos, then President of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei. Speaking to the Latin American bishops at Aparecida, he stated that the "Lefebvrian group" consisted of four bishops, 500 priests and 600,000 faithful. The number is difficult to reconcile with the FSSPX’s infrastructure. The FSSPX has approximately 730 priests, about 180 priories and houses, and 750 chapels and Mass centres. I know in my Church it's packed during the three Masses held in the morning. And then there is one at night. Usually about half full. You will see people standing during the day. There is a nursing room also with mothers and small children as well as in the Vestibule. And also sometimes in a side room. It holds about 1,000 people or so I believe. We have 7 SSPX Church's in Florida. I would say, and would like to believe that there is at least 600,000 SSPX supporters and attendees.
Tibetan Rituals in a U.S. Church. Worse than Germany: On Monday, more than 60 Tibetans gathered at Most Holy Redeemer Church in Hadley, Massachusetts, to celebrate the Dalai Lama's 91st birthday and mark the conclusion of the "Year of Compassion," an initiative of the Central Tibetan Administration. The event opened with a ritual in which participants chanted "Om" three times and tossed tsampa (barley flour) into the air. Attendees also made mandala offerings by bowing and placing a white ceremonial scarf before a photo of the Dalai Lama. The celebration continued with speeches, traditional Tibetan songs and dances, and performances by students from a local Tibetan Sunday school.

Turin Parish Holds Funeral for Muslim. Worse than Germany: On 3 July, the body of an Iranian Muslim was brought to Sant'Anna parish in Turin for a ceremony led by the parish priest, Don Valter Danna. The service included Christian prayers and the use of incense. Don Danna said it was not a Catholic funeral but rather a "prayer of farewell," explaining that the family had close ties to the parish. He confirmed that the ceremony was intentionally distinguished from a Catholic funeral.

"FSSPX Confessions Are Valid" - Müller Contradicts Tucho: On July 6, K-TV asked Cardinal Gerhard Müller whether confessions heard by priests of the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X are valid or invalid. Contrary to Cardinal Tucho Fernández, he replied: "The confessions are valid, but illicit. The power to forgive or retain sins is conferred through the sacrament of Holy Orders. Its exercise can only be restricted by the bishop or the Pope, as provided by canon law."
